Altona makes parts for NASA rocket base
Nasa is going into space with help from Santa Catarina.
Altona, a metallurgical company from Blumenau with almost a century of history, is producing parts for a rocket launch tower for the American space agency. These are cast steel components that will make up the base of the structure.
Without any fanfare, NASA representatives visited the company's factory in the Itoupava Seca neighborhood this week to take a closer look at the manufacturing process. With the partnership, Altona has joined the team of suppliers to the Artemis space program, whose main mission is to explore the Moon.
Altona confirmed to the column that the parts manufactured by the company are being used in Mobile Launcher 2, the spacecraft launch platform that Nasa is building at a base in Florida. Other details of the project have not been officially disclosed.
On its official website, NASA says that lunar expeditions rekindle the "American passion" for discovery, fuel industries, support market growth, foster demand for skilled labor and inspire new generations.
The trips to the Moon are part of a larger NASA plan for the future: to explore Mars.
